How to help out

The Prep Choir
Prep Choir is an open admission choir for children in 2nd. through 4th. grade. The choir is designed to train young voices and teach music theory. Each rehearsal includes a combination of the following: vocal warm ups, voice building, sight reading, rhythm patterns, chord recognition, and intervals. The children learn and sing classical songs from the choral repertoire and movement to accompany contemporary songs. The Prep Choir performs during the two major concerts of the Island Children's Choir. Participation in the Prep Choir provides an excellent musical foundation in a unique and fun atmosphere, although it does not guarantee admission to the Children's Choir. Limit 36 members.

Island Children's Choir
The Island Children's Choir has been in existence since 1976. Today, the Choir is known as a quality musical group with a broad repertoire and is comprised of 90 boys and girls in the 4th. through 6th. grades. Members are selected by audition and rehearse Mondays and Thursdays 6:30 to 8:00pm weekly during the school year. Fulfilling the goal of combining music education and expertise with the fun of a shared experience, the Choir performs a wide spectrum of selections. These range from 16th. Century to contemporary music, and encompass classical, sacred, ethnic, and Broadway tunes. Choreography also pays an important part in the two major performances during the year, as many of the numbers are done in a show choir style with colorful costumes and clever props.

"We are so fortunate to have a children's choir of this caliber in our own backyard. Cheryl (Falk) has a magical combination of discipline and enchantment with these budding vocalists. Our three children have all fallen under her spell. Nick Moore is the consummate professional as a pianist/arranger AND he relates to the kids as well--a rarity! Our children and their peers have reaped enormous benefits from their experiences in choir. Singing in this environment sparks their imaginations, self-confidence and creativity in the purest sense. It is a joy to be part of the ICE family."

Island Sound
Island Sound is a performing company which provides the opportunity for girls ages 13 to 18 to improve vocal, movement and drama skills in a supportive environment. Rehearsing once a week on Mondays from 4:00 to 6:30 pm during the school year, plus a one 4-hour rehearsal/retreat per month, these young performers are expected to work individually and as a supportive member of a company. This quality group performs musicals combining the talents of some of the world's best known creators as well as original works. The girls learn a variety of styles of songs and dances while developing self-discipline, increasing poise and self-confidence and establishing personal goals. Many graduate to pursue careers in musical theater. Members are selected by audition.

"We appreciate the wonderful influence that the Island Choral Experience has had on our daughters' lives. (Our oldest daughter) has been involved with the program for seven years and we feel it has probably been the most positive experience in her life. It has developed not only her voice, but also her self-confidence and presence. And we look forward to (our younger daughter) having a similar experience. Thank you to Cheryl, Nick and Marsha for your leadership and training."
